Health Tips :Weight Gain

Trying to gain a little weight?
When attempting to gain weight, it's best to implement a slow and steady approach so as not to pose any risks to your health. You can best accomplish this by adding 500-1,000 calories to your daily diet in order to gain 1-2 kgs in a week. These additional calories should come from nutritious food sources of carbohydrates, lean protein, and healthy fats. The following are five of the best foods you can eat regularly for healthy weight gain.

Avocado

At nearly 300 calories per fruit, avocado is one of the best foods to incorporate into your diet for healthy weight gain. Avocado is a rich source of dietary fiber, protein, potassium, and other essential minerals and vitamins. It is also low in sodium, cholesterol free, and a concentrated source of healthy fat. You can enjoy this fruit as a stand-alone snack, dipping sauce (guacamole), or delicious add on to salads, omelets, and many other entrees.
Nuts
All nuts are high in calories; it all comes down to your personal preference (walnuts, almonds, peanuts, pecans, or cashews). On the average, there are 200 calories in a 1/4-cup serving of most nuts. In addition, nuts are among the healthiest calorie-dense food sources as they are rich in key vitamins and minerals, dietary fiber, and protein. They are also very high in antioxidants and heart-healthy fats. By themselves, nuts make a great snack but you can also add them to a variety of cereals, side dishes, and entrees for unique flavor and texture.

Oatmeal

While oatmeal is often associated with weight loss, it is also a great food for healthy weight gain. Just one cup contains 166 calories of pure nourishment, as oatmeal is an excellent source of dietary fiber and essential minerals including manganese, phosphorus, and the powerful antioxidant selenium.

Sweet Potatoes

One large sweet potato  contains an average of 160 calories and a host of high-quality nutrients. Sweet potatoes are a great source of vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin C, calcium, and potassium. They are also an exceptionally rich source of antioxidants like beta-carotene, which has been shown to protect against heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and certain forms of cancer.
While gaining weight requires significant increases in your daily calorie intake, there is no reason why you should compromise your nutrition and health while doing so. Adding these foods to your diet is a sure way to gain weight in a healthy way.
